The Oil
and Gas Institute is one of the oldest research institutes in Poland.
Its over 60 years history dates from November 29, 1944, when the
State Petroleum Office issued a document authorizing the establishment
of the Oil Institute in Krosno.
On
January 7, 1945, the official opening of the Oil Institute occurred.
The Institute immediately began an intensive activity in the domestic
oil and gas mining.
In 1948,
the Oil Institute was moved to Krakow, and on the site of Krosno stayed
its branch, operating to this day.
In March
1952, the Central Gas Laboratory (CLG) was established in Warsaw.
In 1970
the Laboratory was moved to Krakow, and in 1972 was transformed into the
Gas Institute with headquarters in Krakow and the branch in Warsaw.
In
September 1958, three Departments of the Oil Institute, involved in
crude oil processing, were moved to a large, state-of-the-art complex of
laboratories in Krakow and subordinate to the Ministry of Chemical
Industry as the Central Laboratory of Petroleum Processing (CLTN).
In 1962,
CLTN was united with the Central Laboratory of Petroleum Products of
Warsaw.
In 1963,
Council of Ministers promoted CLTN into the Institute of Petroleum
Processing, raising its status to state research institute.
On
December 31, 1975 the Oil Institute merged with the Gas Institute to
form the Institute of Oil and Gas Mining with the head office in Krakow
and branches in Krosno and Warsaw
In 1993,
the Institute of Petroleum Processing was divided into the Institute of
Petroleum Processing in Krakow and Central Petroleum Laboratory in
Warsaw.
On
February 1, 2004 - the Institute of Oil and Gas Mining by the
regulation of the Minister of Economy, Labour, and Social Policy
changed its name into the Oil and Gas Institute.
On
January 1, 2008, the Institute Of Petroleum Processing by the decree
of the Minister of Economy of 3rd October 2007 was incorporated into the
Oil and Gas Institute. Since that day the Institute activity covers the
